WHO WE ARE? Get to know us
The Retired Teachers Association Abobizo (RTAA) is a voluntary association established
on November 22, 2023. The name "Abobizo" is a tribute to the fundamental belief that
educators are not merely employees, but individuals "called" to a sacred profession. This
calling does not expire with a retirement date; rather, it evolves into a new form of
leadership and community stewardship.
What began as a foundational group of 27 members has rapidly expanded into a vibrant
network of retired professionals. This growth has been fueled by the shared experience of
educators and amplified through community platforms like Radio Maritzburg, allowing the
association to reach retirees across various regions.
RTAA is a formally registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 307645) under the Non-profit
Act of 1997. As an independent legal entity, the association exists separately from its
members and continues to function regardless of changes in its executive leadership.
At its core, RTAA serves as a protective community designed to militate against the social,
economic, and cultural alienation that often follows retirement. By fostering social cohesion,
the association ensures that members remain physically, spiritually, and mentally active.
Through a structured "Cluster" system, members are organized geographically—into groups
like the Rainbows, Sapphires, and Lions—to ensure that no member is left behind and that
support is always within reach
